” “”Making God great means giving Him space in the world, in one’s life, letting Him into our time and into our actions: this is the deepest essence of real prayer. Where God becomes great, man does not become small: there, man becomes great too, and the world becomes bright”. This is the central thought of the homily that Benedict XVI uttered this morning during Mass at Altötting. The focus of the day’s readings is Mary, “the Lord’s Mother”, commented the Pope, Mary who "guides the rising Church in prayer” and "is nearly the praying Church itself”. With reference to the passage of the Gospel about the miracle of the wedding of Cana, Benedict XVI highlights two aspects of Mary’s: “on one side, her loving care for man”, on the other side, her trusting "everything to the Lord’s judgement”. This, states the Pontiff, is real prayer: "not to be wanting to assert our will and our wishes in front of God, but letting Him decide what He intends to do. From Mary we learn the goodness that is ready to help, as well as the humbleness and generosity to accept God’s will, trusting Him, in the belief that His answer will be our true good”.” “
