BENEDICT XVI IN GERMANY: AT REGENSBURG, "EVERY QUALITY MUSIC RECALLS THE DIVINE"

” “"A solemn church music with a choir, organ, orchestra and people’s songs is not an addition that frames and embellishes the liturgy, but an important method of proactive involvement in the ceremony". As he blessed the third organ of the "Alte Kapelle" of Regensburg – the only public event of the fifth day of the apostolic journey of the Pope in his birthplace – Benedict XVI recalled that "music and singing are more than an embellishment of the ceremony; they are part of the execution of the Liturgy". "The organ, from time immemorial and rightly so – added the Pontiff –, has been called the king of the music instruments, because it encompasses all the sounds of Creation and adds interest to the wide fullness of human feelings. In addition, as it transcends, as every quality music, the human sphere, it recalls the divine". According to the Pope, therefore, "the wide variety of tones of the organ, from piano to fortissimo travolgente, makes it a superior instrument. It can add interest to all the spheres of human life". From this point of view, concluded the Pontiff, "the many possibilities offered by the organ remind us somehow of the immensity and magnificence of God".” “
