MIGRATION: ABUSE IN LIBYA; P.VÖCKING (CCEE), EUROPE "DELEGATES TO THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO CONTROL"

Abuse and violations of human rights against migrants in Libya? "The Europeans fund the project, but the work is done by Maghrebis. It is a distorted situation, because they delegate to others the responsibility for acting elsewhere, especially they delegate to those who are unable to control either the frontiers or the domestic social problems": this is the opinion of father Hans Vöcking, collaborator and migration expert of Ccee (Council of European Bishops Conferences). According to father Vöcking, the situation in Libya "is the negative side of this ‘wild’ migration". "At first, the Maghrebi countries let the migrants pass – says in an interview (tomorrow on old.agensir.it) about the European meeting on "migration and youth" due from September 21st to 24th in Sigüenza, Spain – then a negative effect ensued for the local and European societies. Then they tried to reach an agreement between the EU and the Maghrebi countries to try and stop this migration". In his opinion, "the root problem is to understand what Europe must do to improve the economic, social and cultural conditions of the African countries. But we are not ready yet to treat the illness at its roots. The policy of aids to development must be completely revised”.
