BENEDICT XVI IN GERMANY: FAREWELL CEREMONY IN MUNICH, REFERENCE TO THE ANTHEM OF THE BAVARIAN PEOPLE

Before taking leave of his "beloved fatherland", the Pope entrusted "the present and the future of Bavaria and Germany to the intercession of all the Saints who have lived on the German territory, faithfully serving Christ and experiencing in their life the truth of those words that have accompanied, as a leitmotiv, the different stages of the visit: He who believes is never alone". This experience, added Benedict XVI, "has certainly been lived also by the author of the traditional anthem of the Bavarian people. With his words, which are also a prayer, I like to make one more wish to my home country: May God be with you, Country of the Bavarians, German land, Home! / May His blessing hand rest over your vast lands! / May He protect your country and the buildings of your cities / and keep to you the colours of its white and blue sky!". "Goodbye, everyone" – concluded the Pope.
