COUNCIL OF EUROPE: LAUNCH OF ACTION PLAN 2006-2015 FOR THE DISABLED

” “Launching the Action Plan of the Council of Europe (coE) for 2006-2015 for disabled people will be the goal of the European Conference that will bring together over 200 delegates in Saint Petersburg on September 21st and 22nd. Placed under the aegis of the Russian chair of the Committee of Ministers of the CoE, the meeting will be opened, among others, by Mikhail Zourabov, Russian Health Minister, Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Assistant Secretary of the CoE, and Thomas Hammarberg, Commissioner for Human Rights at the CoE. At the end of the Conference, a ministerial statement will be adopted, called "Improving the quality of life of the disabled in Europe: involvement for everybody, innovation and effectiveness". The Action Plan that is going to be launched on this occasion will cover 15 points, including involvement in political and cultural life, information and employment, mobility and transport. Likewise, the Plan draws attention to the needs of disabled children and women, especially the most severe cases.” “
