BENEDICT XVI: TO THE AMBASSADOR OF AUSTRIA, "A COUNTRY’S GREATEST TREASURE"

” “"Every truly humane policy starts from the assumption that a country’s greatest treasure are its men". It was said this morning by Benedict XVI as he received in audience the new Ambassador of Austria, Martin Bolldordf. As he highlighted how "between Austria and the Holy See" there is "a long-lasting, fruitful relationship that is more than a historical fact; it is based, above all, on the fact the overwhelming majority of Austrians belong to the Catholic Church". "It is useful to man, if those who work in the Austrian political sphere – in the municipalities and the cities, the regions and Parliament – let themselves be guided by a view of the world imbued with the values transmitted by the Christian faith", added the Holy Father. "Those who place, as stated in the Judaic-Christian revelation, the man created by God at the centre of creation and history direct their social and political actions to the true good of men, whose interests and dignity must never be subjected to the values of the force of utility and productivity".” “
