The Asian meeting of the community of Taizè will be held in Calcutta, India, from 5th to 9th October, and will be attended by several thousands of young people from Asia and other continents. The meeting, organised with the support of the Youth Commission of the Indian Bishops Conference, the Catholic archdiocese of Calcutta, the Church of Northern India (Protestant) and the Syrian Orthodox Church of India, is a new step in the "pilgrimage of trust on earth" launched by frère Roger to drive the young to be the bearers of peace and trust, wherever they live. The calendar includes meetings, exchanges of experiences and common prayer. Frère Alois, Frère Roger’s successor, will hold a meditation every day during the prayer. The first exchanges between Taizé and India date back to several years ago. Mother Teresa of Calcutta went to Taizé in 1976, 1985 and 1988, another two meetings organised by Taizé in Chennai (Madras) brought together several thousands of young people.
