” “The press conference for the presentation of the Committee of the Sages that the European Bishops, in the run-up to the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome (25th March 2007), have set up in order to draw up a report on the meaning of ethical values for the unification of Europe, will be presented in Brussels, at the Secretariat of Comece (Commission of the EU Bishops Conferences), on Monday, 11th September. The bishops, reads a note, "wish such a document may boost the development of a public spirit in Europe”. The Committee of the Sages, which will meet for the first time on September 11th , will be represented at the press conference by Philippe de Schoutheete and Stephen Wall, formerly the permanent representatives of Belgium and Great Britain, respectively, at the EU. The conclusions of the report will be illustrated by the Committee itself at the congress that Comece is going to hold in Rome from March 23rd to 25th 2007, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty that established the EEC and while in Berlin (under the German chair of the EU) the European leaders are going to adopt a political statement on the values and ambitions of Europe, confirming the shared will to accomplish them.
