HOLY SEE: MGR. PAROLIN (SECRETARIAT OF STATE), ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENARIO “THE STYLE OF PRESENCE DOES NOT CHANGE”

” ““Even after changing the leadership of the Secretariat of State, the style of the presence of the Holy See on the diplomatic scenario will continue for the good of mankind and for the support of the Churches across the world”: this was said this morning in the Vatican, during the press conference for the presentation of the book “Il lievito del Vangelo”, written by card. Angelo Sodano at the end of his office, by mgr. Pietro Parolin, undersecretary for relations with the states. According to mgr. Parolin, even if there’s the news that neither the Holy Father nor the new Secretary of State, card. Bertone, come from a diplomatic background, this should not change anything. “The style of the presence of the Church on the international scenario and within the different bodies, including the UN, has always been inspired – he said – by the attempt to contribute to the building of a new world order that may defend the values of peace and mutual respect among peoples. This – he added – without forgetting the specific task of the Church, which consists in proposing the Gospel and its principles, also at a political level and at the level of international relations”. To the question whether the situation of the Holy See within the UN should be considered “satisfactory”, mgr. Parolin answered that it should, and he also highlighted that “today it sees its role as an Observer become stronger and stronger, on a par with the other member states”.
