” ““Notes and personal memories intertwine with theological and pastoral subjects, scraps of ecclesial spirituality mix with unfailing references to the role of the Church in the current international scenario, a religious role of ferment, light and guide and a role of moral support to the peoples”. With these words, mgr. Gabriele Giordano Caccia, Councillor for General Affairs of the Vatican Secretariat of State, presented this morning, during a press conference in the Aula Giovanni Paolo II of the newsroom of the Holy See, the book “Il Lievito del Vangelo. La presenza della Santa Sede nella vita dei popoli”, which contains a number of diplomatic and ecclesial speeches by card. Angelo Sodano, Secretary of State, from December 1st 1990 to September 14th 2006. Mgr. Caccia, added that “One could sense in the background the wish to answer a question that he has often been asked over the years, a question that has been often taken up and asked over and over again by the mass media about the meaning and the sense of the presence of the Holy See in the life of the peoples”. Certainly, reflected mgr. Caccia, “The book does not mean to systematically address such significant issues; it is not a theological, juridical or pastoral treatise about the Church or the Holy See”, it is rather “a collection of speeches” that card. Sodano “has given on behalf of the Holy Father, sometimes at strictly ecclesial meetings, some other times in international and political settings”.
