BENEDICT XVI AT THE ANGELUS: "THE MIGRANT FAMILY, A RESOURCE FOR THE WALK OF HUMANKIND (2)

Then, the Holy Father expressed the wish that "we may soon be able to manage in a well-balanced way the migratory flows and human mobility in general, so as to benefit the whole human family, starting from proactive measures that will promote regular emigration and family reunions, with special reference to women and children". In fact, according to Benedict XVI, "even in the wide sphere of international migration, the human being must be always be central. Only the respect of the human dignity of all migrants as well as the migrants’ acknowledgement of the values of the host society can allow the families to properly fit in with the social, economic and political systems of the host countries". According to the Pope, therefore, "the reality of migration must never be regarded as just a problem, but also, and above all, as a great resource for the walk of humankind". And a resource is "especially the migrant family, provided it is respected as such, it is not irreparably torn apart, but may remain united or be reunited, and accomplish its mission as the cradle of life and the sphere in which the human being is first welcomed and raised". After the Angelus, the Pope greeted in particular a group of young migrants from different parts of the world, headed by the bishop of Caserta, mgr. Raffaele Nogaro.
