POLAND, WIELGUS: 21 FEBRUARY, THE DAY OF PRAYER AND REPENTANCE FOR THE PRIESTS

” “Ash Wednesday, 21 February, a day of prayer and repentance for all the priests of Poland. It was established by the Polish Bishops after announcing the news with a message, drawn up after the special meeting of Friday 12 January and read yesterday at Sunday Mass. “The Church of Poland – reads the message – has always shared the mood of the country as much as it has always shared its fate, even at the darkest times of our history. The instances of weakness and disloyalty of some of its members, including priests, that have been brought to light after so many years cannot change it. May this time be, for all of us, an opportunity of repentance and reconciliation, to restore violated justice and regain mutual trust and hope". To do this, state the Bishops, "we wish Ash Wednesday, 21 February, may be a day of prayer and repentance for all the priests of Poland. We wish all the churches of our dioceses may raise prayers to the Divine Mercy, asking for forgiveness for the mistakes and weaknesses committed in the announcement of the Gospel in its entirety. We priests come from the people, we belong to Polish society, that in its entirety needs to turn its back to evil, in the fullness of conversion”.” “
