As for the relationships of the country with Europe, Benedict XVI pointed out that "the Holy See recognizes the specific role of Turkey, as well as its geographic and historical situation: a bridge between the Asian and European continents, as well as a link between cultures and religions". Finally, the Pope underlined that "exchange globalization, already present on the financial and economical levels, of course, should go together with common political commitments, on a worldwide level, with the aim of assuring an organized and continuous development leaving nobody out, also granting the people, families and peoples, a safe future".
