EUROPE: CDE, "SPARE NO EFFORTS TO IMPROVE CHILDREN’S LIFE"

” “"Promoting children’s rights" and "protecting children from all forms of violence": these are the two main goals of the three-year plan of the Council of Europe, called "Building Europe for and with children". The plan is to be re-launched in Strasbourg today with two different events. In the morning, the CoE and Unicef signed a common statement to "increase cooperation" in this area. In the afternoon, during the Parliamentary assembly, lasting until Friday, the CdE will ask all the states of the continent "to spare no efforts to improve children’s life, based on the conclusions of the UN report on violence" against children. The event, due to be held at the Palais de l’Europe, will be attended by Princess Caroline of Monaco and Hanover (president of the World Friends of Children association), the president of the Assembly, René van der Linden (confirmed in office yesterday), and professor Paolo Pinheiro, the author of the UN report. The report, published at the end of 2006, describes "the condition of abused children all over the world and gives recommendations to put this right". ” “
