BENEDICT XVI: MESSAGE FOR THE SOCIAL COMMUNICATION DAY; "THE MEDIA INDUSTRY MUST RESPECT ETHICS"

"The need that the media be committed to actual education and to the respect of ethics is seen as particularly interesting and urgent not just by the families but also by those who have a sense of civic responsibility". This has been written by the Pope in his message for the World Social Communication Day, in which he lingers on the "parents and teachers’ deeply-felt desire to educate children to beauty, truth and goodness". Such desire, explains Benedict XVI, "can be supported by the media industry only insofar as it promotes the fundamental dignity of the human being, the true value of marriage and family life, the positive conquests and the achievements of humankind". Hence the Pontiff’s appeal "to the persons in charge of the media industry, that they may train and encourage producers to protect the common good, advocate the truth, protect individual human dignity and promote the respect of the family needs".
