HOLY LAND: TWAL (JERUSALEM), "THE PROBLEMS OF THE LOCAL CHRISTIANS MUST CONCERN ALL THE CHRISTIANS OF THE WORLD"

” “"The problems of the Christians of the Holy Land must concern all the Christians of the world". At the dawn of the seventh visit to the Holy Land of the American and European bishops, members of the Coordination of the Bishops Conferences in support of the Holy Land, planned for 11th to 18th January, mgr. Fouad Twal, archbishop coadjutor of the Latin patriarchate of Jerusalem, told us: "The initiative goes back about fifteen years, and was prompted first by the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, then by the Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries, in agreement with the Holy See, in order to make the Statute of Jerusalem and the situation of Christians in the Holy Land known". As to this, the archbishop goes on: "the Christian community needs to be locally and factually known and supported, not to make it feel deserted". "This visit will be one further factor of reconciliation and peace between the two peoples through the meetings between the bishops and the Palestinian and Israeli authorities and will enable the bishops to inform their countries of the actual situation of the Christians in the Holy Land and help them as much as they can through solidarity plans and real acquaintance".” “
