BENEDICT XVI: LETTER FOR THE YEAR OF THE MISSION IN LISIEUX (FRANCE), "LET ALL BAPTISED PEOPLE BE MISSIONARIES" (2)

Benedict XVI also quoted Pope Pius XII, who invited the Christians "to pay renewed attention to the missions through to the farthest borders of the earth, reminding them that all the Church had to contribute to the spreading of the Gospel". "I too wish – he highlights – the missionary callings of priests, consecrated people and lay men may keep growing". The Pope mentioned that Saint Theresa of Lisieux, "without ever going out of her Carmel, through her contemplative prayer and by writing to some priests", experienced, "in her own way, a truly missionary spirit", offering to the world "a new spiritual way".
