HOLY SEE: MOSCOW, ON 18TH OCTOBER, MGR. CORDES MEETS ALEXIUS II

On 18th October, the president of the Papal Council Cor Unum, archbishop Cordes, will meet the Patriarch Alexius II in Moscow. The visit, reads a release from the Holy See, is one of a number of meetings that mgr. Cordes will have from 15th to 21st October in the Russian Federation. From 15th to 17th, he will be in Novosibirsk, the capital of the Siberian region. With bishop Joseph Werth, he will visit the Caritas, the Franciscan school and the Sisters of Mother Teresa of Calcutta: in this region, the Catholic Church has stood out in the last few years for a proliferation of charity projects all over the region. From 18th to 21st October, mgr. Cordes will take part – as the guest of archbishop Tadeus Kondrusiewicz – in the work of the Caritas organisations of the whole Federation. In Russia, this line of work has laid the foundations for many experiences of fruitful cooperation with the Orthodox Church. The meeting is important, in that it takes places one and a half years after the issue of Benedict XVI’s first encyclical on love. Therefore it will be an opportunity to see how the Deus caritas est has inspired charity work in this country. The meeting about the impact of the Deus caritas est with the bishops and the volunteers of the Russian branches of Caritas, the trip in Siberia and the meeting with Alexius II, make this journey an important step in the mission of the Papal Council “Cor Unum”.” “
