The full, deepest healing, highlighted the Pope, is "salvation". "Even the common language stated the Pontiff , by making a distinction between ‘health’ and ‘salvation’, helps us understand that salvation is far more than health: actually it is a new, full, final life". In this passage from the Gospel, "Jesus, as in other circumstances, utters the words: ‘Your faith saved you’ recalled Benedict XVI. It is faith that saves man, by bringing him back into his deep relationship with God, with himself and with the others; and faith is expressed by gratitude". Those, therefore, who, "like the healed Samaritan, know how to thank prove they do not take everything for granted, but as gifts that, even when they come through men or through nature, ultimately come from God". "Faith went on the Pope then involves man’s opening up to the grace of the Lord; recognising that everything is a gift, everything is grace. What a treasure is hidden in a simple word: ‘thank you’!".
