” “” “A fleet of boats will welcome Benedict XVI as he arrives in Sidney on 17th July 2008 for the World Youth Day. Then, the Pope will move from the southern part of the bay to Barangaroo on board the Sidney 2000, the biggest cruise ferry in the bay. It was revealed today during the preparatory meeting for the Australian WYD, which is taking place in Sidney. In describing the schedule of the WYD, Steve Lawrence, director of the Australian office for evangelisation and catechesis, and father Peter Williams, director of the liturgical office, explained that "Benedict XVI will come to Sidney bay by boat at about 2 pm. Here he will be welcomed by a fleet of 14 ferries laden with young people and by many other small- and medium-size boats, provided by the people of Sidney who will kindly host the young on board their boats. All the other pilgrims, instead, will crowd the banks of the bay". They reported that "Bangaroo will host the welcoming ceremony, which will be opened by natives, followed by the Youth Festival, while moments of confession and adoration will be available at night. At the end, the Pope will drive along the streets of the city centre on his Pope-mobile".” “” “
