SIR EUROPA: THE PRESIDENT OF THE EU PARLIAMENT POTTERING VISITS THE CATHEDRAL OF BUCHAREST

Yesterday afternoon, the president of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pottering, at the head of a European delegation and as part of an official visit to Romania, met the leaders of the Catholic Church of Romania. The European delegation – tells to SIR the spokesman of the archbishopric of Bucharest, father Francisc Dobos – also visited the Catholic cathedral of Saint Joseph in Bucharest, the focus of a Written Statement recently approved by the European Parliament which strongly condemned the "illegal building", just 8 metres from there, of a huge skyscraper with 20 storeys and 4 underground floors. "President Pottering – says father Dobos – had a series of meetings between yesterday and today with the country’s authorities. He met the presidents of the Senate and the House and dined with the president of the Republic. He certainly wanted to see with his eyes the situation of the cathedral, because of the recent political standing taken by the European Parliament against the building of the skyscraper. A political standing that enormously helped us, because it took to Romania the voice of the European citizens". (continued)
