In his opening address to the newly-elected president of the Assembly, Srgjan Kerim from FYROM, the diplomat of the Holy See recalled the need "to give a new lease of life to the Treaty of non proliferation of nuclear weapons" and to work hard for disarmament and for banning such weapons, and in addition he exhorted the United Nations "to make further progress in controlling conventional weapons, including light and small weapons".” “In recalling the importance of "allocating more and more resources to conflict prevention", mgr. Mamberti expressed "special interest in the commitment of the UN Political Affairs Department" to "creating a team of experienced mediators". (continued)” “
