SIR EUROPA: ELECTION IN POLAND, THE FIRST COMMENTS (2)

"I congratulate the winners – adds mgr. Glodz -, but we must bear in mind that the PiS will be a strong opposition party, because it can rely on the support of the president of Poland, Lech Kaczynski, the twin brother of the current prime minister, Jaroslaw Kaczynski". In addition, the bishop mentioned that "the Church, as well as the media, had invited people to take part in the election. The Church even said that failing to turn out at the polls would have been tantamount to a sin of omission". According to the metropolitan archbishop of Warsaw, mgr. Kazimierz Nycz, it was "care for the country" that won in Poland. In speaking of the importance of the massive turnout of young people, the archbishop of the Polish capital said it is "a generation" that in his opinion "would have a different opinion of the state and the future". In addition, mgr. Nycz expressed the hope that the new government "may be a creative continuation of that Poland that was reborn in 1989 and that had been largely wanted by John Paul II".
