YOUTH: THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GEN (MOVIMENTO FOCOLARI), "FOR A UNITED WORLD" IN 182 COUNTRIES

1967-2007: the Gen, the second generation of Movimento dei Focolari, was born 40 years ago. A "planetary feast" – states a note published today – from Moscow to Abidjan, from Algiers to Katowice, from Malta to Ljubljana, from Milan to Rome. Saturday 27th October, their adventure will be re-enacted in the meeting to be held at the Seraficum, in Via del Serafico, 1, Rome from 4 pm to 10.30 pm. The Gen Movement – young people from different social backgrounds, different races and nationalities, who have chosen to live according to the Gospel – was born to "make the world hope again in Someone who never deceives", as wished in 1967 by Chiara Lubich, the founder of Movimento dei Focolari. During the decades, they have established the “Giovani per un mondo unito” (Youth for a united world) Movement and are present in 182 countries. They belong to different Christian Churches as well as different religions or cultures that do not profess any religious belief. "What they share – states the release that announced the meeting of 27th October – is their commitment to universal brotherhood". The Rome meeting for young people aged 17 to 30, with an alternation of exchanges of experiences, artistic times, video contributions and a final party, intends to "highlight the relevance of a choice that, as much now as in the past, keeps fascinating people and affecting their personal and social lives".
