"The enforcement and implementation of the Treaty on the global ban on nuclear tests (Ctbt) are urgently necessary". It was said by mgr. Michael W. Banach, the leader of the Delegation of the Holy See that over the last few days attended, in Vienna, the V Conference to boost the enforcement of the Ctbt. With reference to the previous statements made by the Holy See, in his speech, announced today, mgr. Banach said that "in today’s world, affected by the threat of terrorism and by the crisis of international relations and organisations", the measures "taken to fight nuclear terrorism and more generally the means to "prevent criminal organisations and other players from owning weapons of mass destruction must be welcome". At the same time, "the States must resume the process of nuclear disarmament". According to the delegate of the Holy See, "nuclear tests, dictated by the wish to develop more and more sophisticated weapons", are "suggestive of a culture of war and death" which "endangers not only peace, but all of the existence of the human family".
