"Ordinary men do not know the European institutions and do not care of their differences. What citizens want are effective results and to be informed" of the decisions taken in Brussels and Strasbourg. Margot Wallström, deputy president of the EU Commission and MEP for communication strategy, called today the EU institutions and the member states to improve the information of and their relations with the EU citizens, that she defined as "inadequate". And she added: "The time has come to put an end to mutual accusations and join forces". Since 2005, the EU Executive has taken care of outlining new, more effective forms of contact between the EU and its citizens: in autumn 2005, they had launched Plan D (Democracy, Dialogue, Debate), and a dedicated White Paper had been created in 2006.
