SIR EUROPA: EU PARLIAMENT RESOLUTION CONDEMNS VIOLENCE AGAINST CHRISTIANS ACROSS THE WORLD (3)

A special note in the resolution that the EU Parliament shall vote on in Strasbourg today concerns "the seriousness of the situation of religious freedoms in the People’s Republic of China, where the authorities keep repressing all religious events", especially those of the Catholic community, that sees "many members and bishops imprisoned for several years, some of whom even died in prison". After the list of the episodes of violence against Christians across the world, the document states it supports "with firm belief all the initiatives for the promotion of dialogue and mutual respect between different religions". Then it invites "all the religious authorities to promote tolerance and take measures against hatred, violent radicalisation and extremism". An effective aspect of the resolution comes to the fore as the document invites the EU institutions to pay attention to the situation of the religious communities "in those countries in which they are threatened as they develop and implement schemes for cooperation and aid to development" just in those same countries. Finally it asks the EU "and to the member states to allocate more funds to the activity of Unhcr" (The High Commission of the United Nations for the Refugees) and "to the humanitarian aids managed by this organisation".
