CATHOLIC SCHOOLS: DOCUMENT BY THE HOLY SEE, "OFFERING YOUTH A REAL EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY"

"Indifference for the fundamental truths of human life, individualism, moral relativism and utilitarianism", as well as "the gap between rich and poor countries", and the growing migrations as outcome of globalization, or the "problems linked with family stability": those are some of the phenomena characterizing our society, affecting also the school world. They were taken into consideration by the new Vatican document: "Educating together in Catholic schools: mission shared by consecrated people and lay believers", drawn up by the Congregation for Catholic Schools. Today, the document was presented at the Vatican press room. In this context, it is written in the text, "offering youth a school training journey becomes particularly urgent", which "must not be reduced to the individual and instrumental fruition of a service with the sole purpose of gaining a title". On the other hand, school must give new generations the opportunity to meet "a real educational community, built up on the basis of common project values". Among the objectives of the new document, "drawing attention on three fundamental aspects concerning the collaboration between believers and laymen consecrated in Catholic schools: communion within the educational mission, the necessary training journey, and openness towards others, as the outcome of communion".
