To fight against the risk of poverty for many couples, especially young ones, "the EU’s regional policies" should not rule out "using the European funds for campaigns aimed at improving the general housing conditions of low-income couples", comments Comece in the document that has been announced in Brussels today. Likewise, domestic abuse destabilises family relations: hence the need to "find EU-wide countermeasures", partly to prevent "juvenile delinquency", often the consequence of "family behavioural models". In addition, the document lingers on the importance of "supporting the local associations and volunteer organisations committed to helping families" and asks that "the problems caused to the families by commuting be included in the EU-wide debate on workers’ mobility". "In reviewing the Lisbon Strategy, the public opinion should be given a strong message, i.e. that staying at home and taking care of one’s young children (at least until they are three years old) is a desirable contribution to the wellbeing of all EU citizens": hence, according to Comece, the importance of preventing discrimination "in terms of tax treatment or pension rights" against those who make "such choice".
