HOLY SEE: NOTE ON EVANGELISATION, "THE RIGHT TO HEAR THE GOSPEL" (4)

As to the "ecumenical ramifications", the Vatican Note invites the Catholics, "ruling out any form of indifferentism and disorderliness and inconsiderate competition, through a common – as far as possible – profession of faith in God and in Jesus Christ before people", to "cooperate in the technical and social as well as in the religious and cultural spheres", by joining forces "fraternally with the separated brothers, according to the rules of the Decree on Ecumenism". After mentioning the non-infrequent case that, "if a non-Catholic Christian, for reasons of conscience and convinced of the Catholic truth, asks to enter the full communion of the Catholic Church, this must be respected as the work of the Holy Spirit and as the expression of freedom of conscience and religion", the Note states that, "in this case, this is not proselytism in the negative sense which is generally given to this word". The document ends with the statement that "the evangelising action of the Church can never be missing, because it will never miss the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ in the strength of the Holy Spirit, according to His own promise". "The announcement and testimony of the Gospel are the first service that the Christians can provide to everyone and to the whole of mankind", concludes the Note.
