HOLY SEE: NOTE ON EVANGELISATION, "THE RIGHT TO HEAR THE GOSPEL"

"Evangelising means not only teaching a doctrine but announcing the Lord Jesus Christ with words and facts; in other words, becoming an instrument of His presence and action in the world. Everyone is entitled to hear the God’s Gospel who is revealed and donated in Christ": this is one of the first passages from the "Doctrinal note on some aspects of evangelisation", announced in the Vatican today by card. William Levada, prefect of the Congregation for the doctrine of the faith, along with the secretary, mgr. Angelo Amato. After explaining "how every activity of the Church has an essential evangelising dimension and must never be separated from the commitment to helping everyone meet Christ in faith", the Note goes on saying that "the social fact and the Gospel are simply inseparable. Where we take to men only knowledge, abilities, technical resources and tools, we take too little of it". With reference to today’s situation, the text goes on: "However, more confusion is engendered today that drives many to leave the Lord’s missionary order unheeded and inoperative (cf. Mt 28,19). People often think that every attempt to convince others in religious matters puts some limits on freedom". (continued)
