SIR EUROPA: EU PARLIAMENT, TOWARDS A "HOUSE OF EU HISTORY" (2)

” “On 13th February 2007, President Poettering had explained to the MEPs: "I would like to promote a place of commemoration and future, in which the idea of Europe may grow further. I would like to suggest that a House of European History be built, which should not become a boring, aseptic museum, but a place that will feed our memory of European history and of the unification process". A place "open to the further development of the identity of Europe". The EU Assembly approved the establishment of an Expert Committee, composed of 8 university lecturers and directors of history museums from different countries. The Committee (members include the Polish Wlodzimierz Borodzjei, the Italian Giorgo Cracco, the Belgian Michel Dumuolin, the British Timothy Garton Ash, the German Walter Hutter, the French Marie-Hélène Joly, the Finnish Matti Klinge and the Dutch Ronald de Leeuw) will start working next January and will have to report before June 2008 on a project for the House (contents, goals, tools, budget) which would then be established during the following European term.” “
