SIR EUROPA: ACCORDING TO EUROBAROMETER, "CITIZENS’ CONFIDENCE IN THE EU IS GROWING"(2)

Of all the EU’s institutions, it is Parliament that enjoys the citizens’ greatest confidence (55%), followed by the EU Commission (50%). Eurobarometer highlights that the Europeans esteem the Brussels’ and Strasbourg’s institutions more than the national ones. Eurobarometer’s survey investigates quite a few issues: for example, it found out that "48% of the citizens think the state of their national economy is good, while 49% think the opposite". The main economic problem pointed out by the interviewees is unemployment (27% on average in Europe, with deep differences from country to country), followed by inflation. Then, the number of people "in favour of taking shared decisions within the EU" is growing, especially in the following spheres: the fight against terrorism (81% are in favour), environmental protection (73%), scientific research (72%) and energy (68%). Finally, "the citizens think that to strengthen the European Union in future the common institutions shall address the fight against crime (36%), environmental problems (33%) and immigration (33%)".
