EPISCOPAL SYNOD: The "SUFFERINGS" AND "CONSOLATIONS" OF THE CHURCH" IN ASIA

” “The joys and sufferings of the Church in the Asian continent have been the focus of the XI meeting of the Special Council of the general secretariat of the Episcopal Synod, which took place on November 20th, chaired by mgr. Nikola Eteroviæ, secretary general of the Episcopal Synod. The news was relayed today by the Newsroom of the Holy See. "The Church – reads the release which contains the reflections made during the meeting – is wandering through the persecutions of the world and the consolations of heaven. Such realisation, that applies to the universal Church, very aptly describes the situation of the Catholic Church in the big Asian continent and reflects the tone of the XI meeting". Mgr. Eteroviæ – informs the release – recalled, quoting Saint Paul, that "suffering is like an unavoidable burden to be carried when one faces the apostolic preaching… The mystery of the Cross can be found, today, also in the Asian land, where faithfulness to the Gospel has been testified with their blood by the many witnesses of the faith of the XX century and those of these first years of the third millennium. However, God’s Word cannot be put in chains and that’s why the Church in Asia preserves and cherishes hope and draws consolation and courage from God’s Word". (continued)” “
