ECUMENISM: EUROPEAN ASSEMBLY OF SIBIU, "A WINDOW" ON RECONCILIATION

Yesterday, the last working day, the 150 delegates of the Christian Churches that were in Wittenberg gathered in workshops to concentrate on the preparation of the third European Ecumenical Assembly (Aee3), due to take place in Sibiu from 4th to 9th September. They explored the nine areas that will be discussed there – unity, spirituality, testimony, Europe, religions, migration, the Creation, peace and justice –, highlighting the problems and peculiar contribution of the Christian Churches for each one. The conclusions will be used by the Conference of European Churches (Cec) and by the Council of the European Bishops Conferences (Ccee) to find working materials for Sibiu. ” “Yesterday, a speech was given in Wittenberg by reverend Geiko Muller-Fahrenholz from the World Council of the Churches, who presented 2007 as the European Year within the Decade for the Overcoming of Violence (2001-2010). "It’s not by chance that this self-promotion of Europe falls in the year of Sibiu. The Churches of the world will look to the European Churches. Sibiu – he concluded – will be a window to responsibly testify our shared task of reconciliation".” “
