Introducing Mass in Latin in the international celebrations and teaching to future priests, since the time of seminary, how to "say Mass" in Latin, using Gregorian chant as well. These are two suggestions contained in the post-Synod apostolic exhortation "Sacramentum caritatis", published today. According to Benedict XVI, the celebrations for international meetings, "except the readings, the homily and the prayer of the congregation, should be in the Latin language”; future priests too, “since the time of seminary" should be "taught to understand and celebrate Mass in Latin, as well as how to use Latin texts and engage in Gregorian chant”. The Pope’s new document also contains specific suggestions on the proper ways of attending TV Mass: those who attend Mass on TV, warns the Holy Father, "must be aware that in normal conditions they are not fulfilling the festive precept”. “Yes”, then, to TV Mass for "elderly and disabled people", “no” instead to "those who, through such programs, try to exempt themselves from going to Church to attend the Eucharistic celebration within the assembly of the live Church”.
