RIGHT TO LIFE. VATICAN DECLARATION: "IN HIS HEART, MAN MUST OBEY THE VOICE OF THE LAW WRITTEN BY GOD" (2)

With a view to the current situation, the Final Declaration of the Pontifical Academy for Life pointed out that "the numerous difficulties tackled by the Christian conscience of believers today, in its judgement and formative route, cannot be hidden because of the cultural context in which believers live, a context in which the crisis of ‘authority’ is experienced, as well as loss of faith and, quite often, the tendency to take refuge in forms of extreme rationalism". Furthermore, the document deplored the fact that legal rules and tribunal decisions taken "under strong pressure by influent and united groups" produced "exceptions to the individual right to life". Moreover, it deplored that "several attacks against human life are getting more and more legitimate, actually ending up denying that life is the foundation of every other right of the person, and that respect for the dignity of every human being is the foundation of freedom and responsibility". "In this respect, – it is written in the document – Benedict XVI recalled that ‘the Christian is asked to rally to tackle the numerous attacks to which the right to life is subject’".
