An opportunity to "go beyond the celebrations" and reflect on the "role of women in European integration" and in today’s society. On these grounds, Barroso’s Commission organised a few meetings and celebrations for 6th, 7th and 8th March for the World Women’s Day. "The EU also wants to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of its gender equality policy as part of the European Year of Equal Opportunities". On Tuesday 6th, the Crown Plaza in Brussels will host a round table on "Women in the economic decision-making process. How to boost their access to responsible positions". It will be followed by a debate on "Women in politics", with commissioners Viviane Reding, Danuta Hübner, Neelie Kroes, Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Meglena Kuneva. Tuesday 7th will see the presentation of the report on equal opportunities between men and women (at the Berlaymont). Lastly, March 8th is the date of a workshop, promoted by the EU Parliament in the premises rue Wiertz, attended by the president of the Commission, José Manuel Barroso. The subject: "Women building the future of Europe" (legal issues to strike a balance between personal and family life and professional life).
