ITALY: MGR. BAGNASCO (PRESIDENT OF CEI), ON 12TH MAY "A BIG PARTY" FOR THE FAMILY

"The event for the family is an initiative that was born of the heart of lay people, of lay associations. Obviously it has the priests and bishops’ full support and agreement. So I think this is enough not to give grounds for any other pointless interpretation". With these words mgr. Angelo Bagnasco, archbishop of Genoa and president of the Italian Bishops Conference, expressed his opinion about the "Family day" of 12th May, announced yesterday with the Manifesto signed by the Catholic associations. During the Feast of Saint Joseph, that also in Genoa was celebrated with Mass for the work world, mgr. Bagnasco added that the event of Piazza S. Giovanni: "is a big party for the family, of the family, as it has already happened in other European countries. So it will be a cheerful, important event, that is part not only of the Christian tradition but of the universal tradition that is certainly the fundamental core of society".
