THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF EUROPE: YOUTH SUMMIT IN ROME FROM TODAY

Under the motto "Your Europe – Your future", from today to 25th March, over 200 young Europeans will meet in Rome to discuss the future trends of the European Union and send a message to its leaders. The Youth Summit is part of the initiatives for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome and is organised by the EU Institutions and the European Youth Forum in order to involve the young and the youth associations in the debate that is under way about the future of the European Union. The preparations for the Rome Summit began in January with a preliminary meeting in Brussels, when they selected the six subjects to be discussed in Rome over these days: the future of the EU Treaty, the socio-economical model of the EU, sustainable development, the role of the EU in a global world, democracy and society, the youth and education. The preliminary work has gone on with national debates organised in all EU member states. The participants in the Summit will draw up a message on the future of the European Union, which will be sent to the European leaders gathered in Berlin. A round table on 25th March, live on the Internet (www.youthsummit.it), will enable them to directly express their opinions to the leaders of the EU Institutions.
