MGR. BAGNASCO: PERMANENT COUNCIL; ABOUT THE FAMILY, A NOTE THAT "MAY BRING SERENE, AUTHORITATIVE ENLIGHTENMENT"

” “Within the protection of the family lies the reflection on the "Dico" (arrangements for unmarried couples). "I appreciate what has been done by the Catholics, and I promise I will take this on and make it grow", stated mgr. Bagnasco, noting on one side "the converging, heart-felt concern expressed by the bishops about this bill of law that is unacceptable in terms of principles and even dangerous in social and educational terms", and on the other side "the concern that the bill of law has aroused within our lay community, in the parishes as well as in the associations". As to the "family day", the president of the Italian Bishops Conference (CEI) mentioned that it was born "just out of the lay associations", evidence of a "dynamism aimed at the common good" that the bishops appreciate and encourage. While, as to the ecclesiastic institution, mgr. Bagnasco mentioned the commitment of the Permanent Council to develop, in this session, "a pastoral note that, in agreement with what has been done in the past on other, similarly crucial occasions, may bring serene and authoritative enlightenment on today’s circumstances".” “
