THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF EUROPE: YOUTH SUMMIT; THE FINAL DECLARATION

"We want a European Union that will promote democratic values and human rights", "sustainability", "economic development and social responsibility"; a EU "that will take responsibility in our global world". But "to accomplish all this", it must be able to "adapt its facilities and procedures to these new realities". This is the core of the message that the young Europeans sent to the EU leaders on the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, which, they recall, "enabled us to grow in a climate of peace and prosperity, democracy and respect of the rules". The text, submitted in Rome yesterday at the end of the first European Youth Summit, called "Your Europe, your future", was born at the end of the process that in the last few months saw the delegations of the different European countries exchange ideas both locally and nationally, then draw up a joint declaration during the summit.
