The fight against domestic violence, the problem of street children and the building of a Europe "for and with children": these are three of the items on the agenda of the springtime session of the Congress of Local and Regional Powers of the Council of Europe, taking place today and tomorrow in the Strasbourg premises. The speakers will include Fabienne Keller, mayor of the Alsatian capital, and Terry Davis, secretary general of the CoE. "The discussions will also focus on the preparation of indicators of social cohesion explains a note from the CoE , the access of disable people to public services and public buildings, inter-generational cooperation and the rise in extreme poverty in the European cities". In addition, the floor will speak of the Continental Forum for the future of democracy, planned in Stockholm from 13th to 15th June. Another event promoted by the CoE will take place in Istanbul from 28th to 31st March. "Two hundred young leaders and social workers dealing with young people from Europe and Asia" will meet in the Turkish city "to take part in a symposium about the practice of inter-religious and intercultural dialogue within the social context", organised as part of the "All different, all the same" campaign.
