The Declaration of Berlin about the future of Europe is the first item in the agenda of the parliamentary session scheduled in Brussels from this afternoon until tomorrow. It will be the very German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, current president of the EU Council, to illustrate the contents of the text and the future perspectives to European MPs, starting from the June summit and from the intergovernmental Conference which should take place in the second half of 2007, to reach an agreement on the Constitution. The other two signers of the Declaration will take part in the debate: the president of the Parliament, Hans-Gert Poettering, and the president of the Commission, José Manuel Barroso. Among the subjects tackled by the hemicycle there is also the reform of the community balance sheet. On the other hand, a report by a Dutch deputy, Joost Lagendijk, focuses on the Kosovo situation: "the international community and, in particular, the European Union, are asked to commit themselves to find out a solution within the United Nations as soon as possible, and to go on guaranteeing the stabilization process". The reintegration of Kosovo within Serbia is considered "scarcely realistic", while "the European perspective of both countries" is confirmed. A debate on the perspectives of a common foreign policy is scheduled tomorrow, with the participation of the EU High Representative, Javier Solana. ” ” (To be continued)” “
