HOLY LAND: MGR. FRANCO (NUNCIO) TO SIR, "WHY I DON’T GO TO THE YAD VASHEM" (2)

The apostolic nuncio to Jerusalem and Palestine, mgr. Antonio Franco, will not attend the yearly ceremony in commemoration of the Shoah, due next week at the Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Museum of Jerusalem. This was confirmed to SIR by the Nuncio himself who thus explained "this painful surrender": "I wrote a letter to the Directorate of the Yad Vashem to explain that last year we had already told them we had issues with the photo with the caption of Pius XII on the memorial" (the caption reports the Pontiff had kept an allegedly ambiguous position about the murder of the Jews during the Holocaust, editor’s note). "The reply to my letter that I see today on some Israeli papers – goes on mgr. Franco – says the historical truth cannot be changed. Facts cannot be changed, but such facts have been interpreted in a way that clashes with many other historical truths and above all with an entirely different historiography that gives a different view".
