"The activity of CCEE went on Card. Erdö refers to the whole European cultural area; therefore, it also includes the Bishops’ Conferences of Turkey and Russia, and it consists in fostering and encouraging ecumenical dialogue between Catholics and Orthodox, as well as dialogue on the fundamental human values". Among the subjects tackled in these days’ meetings with the presidents of some ministries of the Holy See, Card. Erdö mentioned a few "specific pastoral questions, like the prison question, assistance to migrants, and the pastoral of the gypsies, who are not just a social problem he pointed out, but bring us cultural and human wealth, whose value has to be increased". CCEE, made known the president, "is carrying out a survey on the Catholic schools in the Continent" and "intends to strengthen its collaboration relationship with all European universities, in particular, the Catholic ones. The ideal partner is FUCE (Federation of European Catholic Universities)". On presenting the European meeting of university professors (Rome, 21-24 June 2007), about "A new humanism for Europe", Card. Erdö pointed out: "The fundamental values are to be defended on a political level, above all, but there is also a deeper level, the level of dialogue with the men of science and culture".
