EPISCOPAL SYNOD: MGR. ETEROVIC, "IN OUR RELATIONS WITH THE JEWS, WE WOULD LIKE ALL SHADOWS TO DISAPPEAR"

“God’s Word has an exceptional ecumenical value. It unites Christians, who unfortunately still experience doctrinal and disciplinary divisions in different churches and Christian communities. A full unity can only be possible if we go back to the sources of the Word, as interpreted in the light of the ecclesial tradition”. It was said by mgr. Eterovic during the press conference in the Vatican for the presentation of the “Lineamenta” of the next Episcopal Synod (5-26 October 2008). Urged to open up the Synod to the presence of fraternal delegates of the Jewish people, mgr. Eterovic said that "God’s Word is particularly important in the relationships between the Christians and the Jewish People, with whom we share such a big part of the Biblical canon, that Christians call the Old Testament, the expression of the Alliance that always applies, since God remains faithful to His promises”. As to the recent controversies, he then added: “In our relations with the Jews, we would like all shadows to disappear. I think it can be done, and after all a lot has already been done”.
