WYD SIDNEY 2008: ‘TWINSHIPS’ TO BRING YOUTH FROM THE PACIFIC AND OCEANIA

Bringing to the WYD of Sidney as many young people as possible from Oceania and the Pacific area. This is the goal of the "pilgrims’ cooperation plan" promoted by the organisers of the WYD, which will take place from 15th to 20th July 2008 in Sidney. “Excitement is tangible all over the Pacific at the idea of hosting the first WYD in our country – states mgr. Anthony Fisher, the coordinator of the WYD 2008 –. States like the the Caroline islands, the Cook islands, the Fiji islands, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall, Marianne, Nauru, Salomon, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu have never had any pilgrims at the WYDs. All these countries will send young people to Sydney in 2008”. The Plan has been designed to create a relation of cooperation, support and assistance in taking part in the WYD between groups of young people from Australia and New Zealand (the hosts) and overseas groups (pilgrim partners). The initiative will rely on the support of parishes, dioceses, schools, communities, movements, universities and religious orders, which will "take" groups from these disadvantaged countries, thus establishing a cooperation aimed at letting them take part in the WYD. The plan began these days; to join in, log on to wyd2008.org and fill in a form for contacting the organisation that will take care of these ‘twinships’.
