EUROPE: ECUMENICAL MEETING IN STUTTGART, OVERCOMING "THE SPIRITUAL AND INTELLECTUAL LAZINESS THAT AFFECTS CHRISTIANS"

"The Europe of tomorrow must be more than a simple group of states, that stands out for its single currency and that has nothing to show that really unites it". This was written by mgr. Thomas Maria Renz, auxiliary bishop of Rottemburg-Stuttgart and vicar for the new communities and ecclesial movements, in a message to the participants in the "Walking together" Congress, promoted by 250 Christian movements and communities, which opened this morning in the German city. According to the Bishop, it is "wonderful" that men and women from all over Europe, members of movements and communities of different confessions, have come to Stuttgart, in the heart of Europe, because "together we can face our responsibility for a Christian Europe". According to mgr. Thomas Maria Renz, now we must overcome that "spiritual and intellectual laziness that affects Christians", hoping this event in Germany "will provide a new boost, new joy for the Gospel and greater courage to the confession of our native countries". This morning, the bishop of Rottemburg-Stuttgart, mgr. Gebhard Furst, made a speech at the Congress.
