EUROPE: OVER 250 CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES AND MOVEMENTS IN STUTTGARD FROM TODAY

"Casting bridges between different cultures and peoples, between citizens and institutions, and give a new boost to the building of the continent". This is the goal set put by the "Together for Europe 2007" campaign, promoted by 250 Christian communities and movements that will meet from today (until Saturday 12th May) in Stuttgart, in the heart of the Old Continent, to prove that the Europe of the future must pull down prejudice, overcome nationalism, historical barriers, social conflict, and maki a contribution to overcome the "fear of the future and of the loss of identity, in response to the demand for meanings and values". The highlight will take place on Saturday at the "Hans Martin Schleyer" sporting facility, where thousands of people are expected to go from all over Europe and during which a "Together for Europe" final message will be signed, in which the delegates of Christian movements and communities will pledge themselves to be witnesses of "the liveliness of the lived Gospel and tinge with hope the future of the continent". The ceremony will be attended by card. Walter Kasper, president of the Papal Council for the Unity of Christians, and the Orthodox Archbishop of all Albania, Anastasios Yannulatos, one of the presidents of the Ecumenical Council of the Churches; Jean-Arnold De Clermont, President of KEK (Council of 126 European Churches), and other delegates of Churches and ecumenical bodies.
